Welcome!
I am so excited to take this journey to Siam with all of you! This show is a beautiful show that tells a great message. Over the past 10 months, since I knew that I was going to direct this show, I have been researching and I have had many great discoveries. I cannot wait for the discoveries that we find as a cast as well tell this story of influence of a teacher.
"It's a very ancient saying,
But a true and honest thought,
That if you become a teacher,
By your pupils you'll be taught." - Getting to Know You
There is much we can learn from each other. I will not know all the answers. I will have to learn from each of you how to best portray each character. This show is not an easy show, it will require work to get it where it needs to be. I will not settle for sub-par. As I continually told my students in my shows that I will not put crap on stage. There is no reason why we can't strive for professional quality. I don't want this show to be good, I want it to be great.
I know that there is a lot of conflicts this summer, that just is the nature of doing a family show over the summer, there are family vacations. If you put that you were unavailable on your audition sheet, it's cleared with me. I can't ask you to not go on a family vacation. What I can and will ask is that you don't miss any other rehearsals. Many times there is a cap on how many you miss before you are out of the show, for this show however there will not be one. After the first unexcused absence you will have to decide whether you wish to continue to be in the show. We have planned that everyone is at as few of rehearsals as possible. We will keep them as short as possible. I DON'T WANT TO WASTE ANYONE'S TIME, AND I DON'T WANT YOU TO WASTE MINE. Please come to rehearsal ready to work. I prefer to have quality over quantity. We start rehearsal on time, you don't show up when it starts. Plan on coming 10 minutes early to warm up and chit-chat with the others before rehearsal.
This will be a great, great show. Thank you so much for giving up your summer to be with us on this journey. I can't wait to get to know you.
"Haven't you noticed
Suddenly I'm bright and breezy?
Because of all the beautiful and new
Things I'm learning about you
Day .. by ... day." -Getting to Know You
