Final Cast Party

So in-between the matinee and evening show we will be having a last hoo-rah party for the whole cast. So the kids who are not performing are still invited. It will be at the park across the street from the theatre at around 4:30. There will be a sign up sheet below and just comment on what you are bringing so that everyone else knows what you are bringing. Wear your cast shirts and bring a picnic chair if you want. (Just in case some is using the bowery) If there is bad weather we will just have it in the basement. Plan on 65-75 people coming.

It is closing weekend so there is an expectation that we strike and clean everything that the next show will not be using. If you live close and want to drop off your children, that would be great! A job sheet will be posted on Friday. So that during the show on Saturday we can get ahead and not have to stay as late. The expectation is that if you finish your job then you stay and help someone else. We will leave the theatre cleaner then we found it, which won't be very hard to do...

Dinner sign-ups

Plates & Napkins (1 person)
Utensils (1 Person)
Cups (1 Person)

Drinks (5 People)

Chips (3 people)

Salads (5 people)

Desserts (5 people)

The Theatre and I will be providing the Chicken Salad Sandwichs, if anyone is allergic let me know and we can plan accordingly.

Fine Arts Center

So for those of you interested in auditioning for the Fine Art Center shows. I am unable to edit the website, but the newspaper printed the correct information. There will be auditions on Tuesday and Thursday, with callbacks, if necessary on Saturday. Spread the word.

We will also be having a part during the break of the matinee and the evening show this Saturday. We want the whole cast there. More info to come.

Monday Schedule

So we are now to the halfway point of the run. We have been doing good and I believe starting this weekend we will be selling out so tell all your friends and family to get a ticket now.

Just a heads up for tomorrow's show. I will be late, I have errands to run in Provo and won't get back until the show has started so Candice will have the key. She will open up at 6:15. We will do mic checks at 6:30, run Uncle Tom's Cabin at 6:40 and March of the Siamese children at 6:55. We will all need to be downstairs at 7. We will do warm ups at 7:15 and circle up at 7:25. Candice is in charge so listen to her like you always do.

I will get there as soon as I can but I know I will hit traffic in Salt Lake so if I am not there just start without me. I will just come in the back when I get there.

So founded a new theatre company, the link is below. Go check it out and spread the word.

Matinee show

Call time for matinee show for dancers is 12:30, we will be recording it if any moms want to film it for personal use. Not to upload to YouTube. The children will be warming up at 1, with mic checks to follow. Everyone should be back to the theatre by 6:30 for the evening show.

Wednesday, August 27, 2014

Hi there

Its been really strange not going to the theatre every night.

Some notes this Saturday there is a matinee and evening show, between them we will not have a party. For the one on the 13th we will because we will also be cleaning up in preparation of closing.

Everyone should read the BENJ there is a wonderful write up of our show, especially Uncle Toms Cabin. Wahoo!!!

I will post more later this week about the family shows at the Fine Arts Center.

Warm-ups

Okay YAY, we are at show time. So here is how each day should go:

6 pm- start showing up

6:15- Uncle Tom's Cabin- don't worry about costumes

6:30- Getting to Know You & March of the Siamese Children

6:45- Mic Check

7- Everyone downstairs for warm-ups

7:30 Show starts

Hair

So first off I am so sorry I didn't put this up earlier. I came home from rehearsal to find that the power to my house was out and was restored this morning.

I know this is really late, but, everyone needs Black or really dark brown hair. Except for Anna, Louis & Captain.

I didn't really want to dye everyone's hair but seeing how much of a difference it made with those who did it, convinced me that we needed it. And some moms who stayed and watched agreed.

What I am asking is that those who are willing, would you please dye your hair.

Shanna found some wash-in product at Wal-Mart. So you would have to wash it in each week as it would fade.

The spray is just so darn expensive. So any other alternative is preferred.

So tonight we will have a little pow-wow to come up with a solution.

So please check the blog tomorrow morning to see what your options are.

Reminder Cast Picture Tonight

I forgot to announce at last nights rehearsal that the cast picture will be tonight at 6:30. So if you are in Cast A and want to be in the picture be at the theatre by 6. We have the spray to make all the kids hair black, it washes out don't worry. So girls , children, wives, singers & dancers come with your hair in buns already. Boy you don't need buns but we will also be spraying your hair.

Once we have taken the picture Cast A is excused. We will do warm ups and run through 2 numbers after mic checks and hopefully start by 7:30. We have a small audience tonight so treat it like a performance.

A few more moms have signed up and that is great but we still need more moms or dads to sign up for the the remaining rehearsals as well as performances.

Tonight I will open the theatre at 5:30 but from now on just plan on showing up at 6.

Rehearsals will go late this week

Just so everyone knows, we won't be done until 10pm each night. Please plan carpooling accordingly.

I also need more moms to sign up for supervising each night. Tonight we had no moms and it was hard. It would be preferred if there was 2 moms each night to help one another. The sign up sheet is at the theatre. Please when you drop off your kids you come and sign up for a few days.

Kids, we need you to bring something to do each night. Coloring books, board games, if someone wants to bring a movie and a laptop that would be great. We need to keep you entertained. Also if kids want to bring treats to share that would be fine.

KIDS!!! I went into the dressing room and there were pants on the floor and jackets not hung up and crowns all over the place. We need to take care of our stuff and put it away right.

Rehearsals this week

I will open the doors at 6. Call time is 6:30. You need to be in costume ready to go at 6:30. Today we will be adding mics. Every speaking role but Erik and Cooper will have a mic. We will do warm-ups and run through some numbers and start the show at 7:30.

On Wednesday we will be taking the cast picture at 6:30. So both kids in cast A & B will be there for pictures. Both on Wednesday and Thursday there will be the photographer to take pictures during rehearsal. There will be a CD that you can purchase with all the pictures he takes.

Remember that all the kids need to wear a white shirt.

Thursday, August 14, 2014

Rehearsal for Friday and Saturday

So thank you everyone for keeping your Friday open. Here's how it will go down.

6-7:30 Wives, Children, King, Kralohome, Anna, Thiang & Louis.

7-9 Singers, Dancers & Tuptim.

Throughout the rehearsal Shanna & Candice will be practicing with Louis, Tuptim, Lun Tha, Thiang & the Singers.

On Saturday we need all the guards, Troy, KC & Zach at 9 to work scene changes.

Everyone else needs to show up at 9, get into costume and get ready to rehearse. It will be a long day so the earlier we get started the sooner we end. So if everyone is ready to go we can start at 9:30. The goal is to get done by 3. But we will go until we are done.

Remember to bring everything you need for the potluck. See you all soon!

Tuesday, August 12, 2014

Potluck Saturday

Noreen Mortensen has volunteered to be in charge of the potluck. There will be a sign up at rehearsal each day this week. Please if you are just coming to drop off your kids that you run in and sign up.

Just some notes

Singers we bought your black pants, so don't buy any.

If anyone was making costumes, could you please bring them tomorrrow so that we see what else we need done.

The only dancers that we need tomorrow are the ones who are in Hello Young Lovers. As well as Monday. After that all dancers will be called to all rehearsals.

If we start at 9 tomorrow we hopefully can get done by noon.

Thursday, August 7, 2014

Sewing Party

So a few moms have been great to volunteer to make some tunics. We have few more to make but we should be alright. This next Tuesday we are having a sewing party, we will be making the pant/skirt thingy. I have grandma who found a pattern, an easy pattern. So we want to see if there are moms who want to bring their sewing machine and make some easy pants that we can try on the kids after their rehearsal. So if you have a friend, aunt, neighbor or anyone who wants to sew a fairly simple costume, we would love to have them. One mom made a tunic and said it took her an hour to make. We will also need belts to be made, but those are last on the chain of importance of children's costumes. We had a few moms sign up for dates to supervise. So the sign up sheet will be at rehearsals next week. Thank you again for all you do.

Cast Bios

The Bio sheets need to be turned in this week. We have a lot of people that haven't filled one out yet. (Guards we understand because you haven't had a rehearsal yet.) So if there is anyway that those on this list could come to rehearsal tonight or tomorrow to fill one out that would be great.

Lots of Info

Thank you everyone for working hard. This next week there is not going to be a lot of rehearsals going on due to vacations and other things. This will allow us time to paint the set and make some costumes so that when we come back we are able to hit the ground running with nearly all of the set, props & costumes done and we can focus on putting all of those elements with our blocking, dancing and singing.

There will be another post coming in a few minutes with the rehearsal calendar for the remainder of the rehearsal process.

Some costume notes-

Singers- We have the vests for you. You need to bring a nude or black tank top or undershirt and gaucho pants. (They are flowy pant like bell-bottoms. Candice can explain it better than I can.)

Dancers- A black leotard with short sleeves and black leggins that go just past the knee.

Guards- We will have vests and pants. You need to bring a solid red shirt. We will pull dock worker costumes from the costume shop.

Young Lovers- We are still looking so we will keep you updated.

Children- We have some of your costumes. Some are being made and some more will need to be made. I have 2 moms who are experimenting this weekend on making them. Still about 10 costumes need to be made. So if you are a mother who is willing to make a simple tunic, that would be fabulous. We also need simple belts and skirts made. If you aren't a seamstress, but, you may know of someone who wants to help that would be great.

Wives- We seemed to have solved all the issues. You all are perfect.

Speaking Cast- We have stuff pulled. I know we are still looking for pieces.

Children Cast-
Cast A (Aug 21, Aug 23, Aug 29, Sept 1, Sept 6, Sept 13 Matinee & Evening)

Please if these dates absolutely do not work let me know, today so that everyone can tell friends and family.

On Tuesday children will have a rehearsal and I will have a sign up sheet for supervising during the final rehearsals and shows. I would like if every parent could sign up for at least 2 dates, because some parents are also performing. If you can do 3 or 4 I will be happier than a fat kid with cake.

The final rehearsal calendar will be posted soon.

Saturday July 26th

Could all dancers and singers come this Saturday July 26th. I know this is last minute but we need more time. It will go from 9-12.

Next Tuesday July 29th the dancers will go from 6-9 and singers & Tuptim from 7-9.

Also if anyone else needs a shirt and hasn't already emailed me, please do so soon. I would like to send in the order this Friday.

Thank you all! We are close to finishing the never ending costume hunt!

The next week

Okay so we have had really good rehearsals this past week. This Tuesday will be the dancers, singers and Tuptim from 6-8 practicing Uncle Tom's Cabin. We will also need all the speaking characters from 6-8. We will be running act 1. So we need- Anna, King, Thiang, Kralohome, Interpreter, Lun Tha, Prince, Louis & Orton. We will go from 6-8.

On Saturday from 9-12, we would like all the speaking roles again to run Act 2. We would like all the Royal Wives from 9-10, you have lines in the first scene of the second act.

If you still want a shirt make sure you sign up by Tuesday.

Some changes in the rehearsal for next week

I mistakenly put guards instead of children on tuesday's rehearsal. So if you can have the children come, that was totally my bad! I have been running around like a chicken with my head cut off the past two weeks, but we have had really good rehearsals and many of the major problems are getting resolved! So we do have more edits for next weeks schedule.

Tuesday will remain as planned with the children coming rather than the guards, unless you were a guard that was specifically named, you still come.

Wednesday- The guards will still come, to try on costumes and get some direction, they will be done by 7.

We also need Louis and the Prince to come from 6-7 to work on your song. Anna and the King if you could come from 7-8:30 that would be great.

Thursday is the same as originally posted, Anna and the King from 6-8

Saturday will not be everyone. We will be doing the schoolroom scene again, so Anna, King, Tuptim, Lady Thiang, Wives, Singers and Children. From 9-12.

I am so sorry for changing everything all the time but some good news, we got the soundtrack! We will pass around the sign up sheet for shirts during this week so come prepared with shirt sizes that you need. Reminder they cost $6 a shirt. If you don't have rehearsal this week or will not be here just email me what you need and give me the money when you can. I would like to order this as soon as possible.

Thank you so much for all your hard work, this show is going to be 'something wonderful'!

A few pieces of info

Just a reminder there is no rehearsal this Tuesday, Perry City 4th of July Pageant.

I went to get costumes from Logan, and was able to get props and a few costumes. The place I went to only had the props, but they did have some more leads for the costumes. There still are other places that have costumes. The goal is to have all the costumes found before July 31st. So if I haven't given you a costume by then, you may go into panic mode and question me.

Guards we will have a rehearsal for you soon, now that we are on the stage. Once the blocks get made we will have a rehearsal just for the 8 of you so we can practice everything we need.

We will be passing around a sign up sheet for cast T-shirts next week at the rehearsals. Reminder anyone can order as many as they want. Friends and Family are certainly allowed to order a T-shirt. This is a good advertisment, as well as fun to have something from the show.

By Wednesday a revised calendar for the next two weeks will be up.

It has been great that we end each rehearsal early. That means we are all focused and prepared and on time, which were my major expectations for this show. Now that we have scripts we can get to blocking the show on the stage, while other things are rehearsed downstairs, which will allow us to maximize our time.

Have a happy, fun and safe 4th of July!

Sorry Boys

This Thursday rehearsal for Logan, Aaron, Cooper & Brycen will have to be postponed. I am currently New York or else I would call each of you. It will be arranged after I get back. Sorry for the inconvience. Please once one of the boys mom reads this contact the others.

Revised Rehearsal Calendar for the next two weeks

The rehearsals so far have been going great. We have ended early each day. Thank you for everyone for showing up on time and working hard. As many of you know we haven't yet received our scripts so learning lines and music has been difficult, we also haven't received the soundtrack so dancing has been a struggle. So we need to revise some things in the calendar. So the next two weeks we have dropped some rehearsals so that when we get everything we properly work on the show.

No Rehearsal next Thursday

There was  some changes with the Seven Brides for Seven Brothers performances. Millie (Karlie Nicols-Clark) broke her foot in rehearsal last week. They had to replace her. So they delayed the opening of the show until next week. It doesn't conflict with our rehearsals except for next Thursday. We will just not have rehearsal next Thursday.
The March of the Siamese Children will be added at a later date when we get a better grasp on the rehearsal process.
Act I Scene III will be added to the rehearsal on Tuesday at 7:30. We will need Anna, King, Kralahome, Tuptim & Lady Thiang. The wives don't need to attend this rehearsal. We will add them in at another rehearsal.
If anyone has any questions please contact me. This has been an unforeseen difficulty.

Welcome!

I am so excited to take this journey to Siam with all of you! This show is a beautiful show that tells a great message. Over the past 10 months, since I knew that I was going to direct this show, I have been researching and I have had many great discoveries. I cannot wait for the discoveries that we find as a cast as well tell this story of influence of a teacher.

"It's a very ancient saying,
But a true and honest thought,
That if you become a teacher,
By your pupils you'll be taught." - Getting to Know You

There is much we can learn from each other. I will not know all the answers. I will have to learn from each of you how to best portray each character. This show is not an easy show, it will require work to get it where it needs to be. I will not settle for sub-par. As I continually told my students in my shows that I will not put crap on stage. There is no reason why we can't strive for professional quality. I don't want this show to be good, I want it to be great.

I know that there is a lot of conflicts this summer, that just is the nature of doing a family show over the summer, there are family vacations. If you put that you were unavailable on your audition sheet, it's cleared with me. I can't ask you to not go on a family vacation. What I can and will ask is that you don't miss any other rehearsals. Many times there is a cap on how many you miss before you are out of the show, for this show however there will not be one. After the first unexcused absence you will have to decide whether you wish to continue to be in the show. We have planned that everyone is at as few of rehearsals as possible. We will keep them as short as possible. I DON'T WANT TO WASTE ANYONE'S TIME, AND I DON'T WANT YOU TO WASTE MINE. Please come to rehearsal ready to work. I prefer to have quality over quantity. We start rehearsal on time, you don't show up when it starts. Plan on coming 10 minutes early to warm up and chit-chat with the others before rehearsal.

This will be a great, great show. Thank you so much for giving up your summer to be with us on this journey. I can't wait to get to know you.

"Haven't you noticed
Suddenly I'm bright and breezy?
Because of all the beautiful and new
Things I'm learning about you
Day .. by ... day." -Getting to Know You
